asked questions

  • Why is there oil on top of my hazelnut butter?
A layer of oil at the top of your hazelnut jar is proof that you have purchased the real deal and that no additives have been added. When hazelnuts are ground, they release a natural oil that, when left to sit, floats to the top of the jar. Just stir it back in to produce a creamy spread when you want it.
  • What is the difference between light roasted and dark roasted hazelnut butter?
Lightly roasted hazelnut butter has a more subtle flavour and a naturally sweeter taste than dark roasted hazelnut butter which is roasted for slightly longer to produce a more intense flavour. Try our dark roasted butter with a slice of apple or pear on a cheese cracker for a taste sensation.
  • Is your hazelnut butter sugar and salt free?
Our range of hazelnut butter does not require added flavour. They are delicious all by themselves so there is no added salt or sugar.
  • Where do your ingredients come from?
We grow our hazelnuts where we live, on the fertile soils of the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand. They are processed on-site, paddock to plate, ensuring a high-quality product delivered to your door, every time. Hazelnuts are harvested every year but as crop size can vary from year to year, we may supplement our supplies with hazelnuts from other like-minded growers in the local area.
  • What are some of the delicious ways I can enjoy Canterbury Nuts products?
Our hazelnuts can be eaten raw, roasted, or coated in chocolate to create a decadent sweet treat. Hazelnuts contain vitamin B6, vitamin E, folate, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, thiamine, and magnesium. So not only do they taste great, they are also a healthy addition to your diet. View our recipes.
  • How should I store your products?
You can keep our hazelnuts and hazelnut butter in the pantry but they will last longer in the fridge if you intend to consume them as an occasional treat. Keep the packets closed and the lids tight to keep them fresher for longer.
  • Will I become overweight eating Hazelnuts?
Hazelnuts are little powerhouses of vitamins and rich in unsaturated fats, fibre and protein. This makes them a nutritionally rich food and effective at increasing satiety. A 2013 systematic review in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that eating nuts did not increase body weight or fat when included in a diet. In addition, there’s mounting evidence to suggest that eating nuts and seeds daily can lower your risk of diabetes and heart disease and may even lengthen your life. They are the perfect snack and healthy addition to your diet.
  • Are your nut-butters Vegan, Gluten & Dairy free?"
Yes, the only ingredients in our nut butters are hazelnuts and the joy that goes into everything we do. The chocolate covered hazelnuts are not suitable for vegan and plant-based diets at this point in time and do include dairy in the coating.
